Yes you CAN Eat Organic on a budget!

I am asked all the time about how to choose which foods to eat Organically if you are on a limited budget. The Enviornmental Working Group (EWG) has published a list of the best and worst foods with regard to the amount of pesticides that remain on or in them during farming.

The Dirty Dozen: These foods have the highest amounts of pesticides that remain on or in produce based on data from the USDA and EPA testing. If you are just starting with organic foods, you should start with these.
Apples
Celery
Strawberries
Peaches
Spinach
Imported Nectarines
Imported Grapes
Sweet Bell Peppers
Potatoes
Domestic Blueberries
Lettuce
Kale
Select types of Collard Greens

The Clean Fifteen: These foods are the least pesticide absorbent produce on the market.
Onions
Sweet Corn
Pineapples
Avocado
Asparagus
Sweet Peas
Mangoes
Eggplant
Domestic Cantaloupe
Kiwi
Cabbage
Watermelon
Sweet Potatoes
Grapefruit
Mushrooms

Many grocery stores carry organic products these days. If you look,  you can find coupons for your favorite products. Two of my favorite stores are Earth Fare and Trader Joe's. Earth Fare puts out coupon booklets quarterly in the front of their store (they are manufacturer's coupons so they can be used at other stores). You can also visit the company website of the brands you like, they often have coupons available.

You can also get organic produce locally. Several websites to find an organization near you are www.localharvest.com and Organic Consumers Association. You can also find Organic foods on Amazon.com. You can find a local Co-Op HERE.  Have a local Organic market or Co-Op near you, post the link for others please!
