Cleaning
House-A Mom's 12-month experiment to Rid Her home of Youth Entitlement By Kay
Wills Wyma
I
completely agree with Kay Wills Wyma that today's youth are growing up with a
sense of entitlement rather than a good work ethic. She says " Let's
parent our kids as if they are inherently strong, not inherently weak." In
her book she details her yearlong experiment to get rid of the entitlement
attitudes her children were displaying. The book is twelve chapters, one for
each month long experiment.
I
love how she starts the book with the following "With the greatest of
intentions and in the name of love, we have developed a tendency to hover, race
in to save, protect from failure, arrange for success, manipulate, overprotect,
and enable our kids." Kay's personal stories and creativity will make you
not want to put this book down. Kay has 5 children whom she introduces to the
reader to as well as their personalities. She starts with a list of 12 things a
kid should know before flying the Wyma Coop.
Kay
covers everything from Clutter control, meal planning, cooking, home repair,
cleaning to serving others and more. Kay is brutally honest about her kids
reactions to each task. This book helped me to see areas that I need to work
on. One being I have never thought about having my younger children do meal
planning, much less take them to the grocery store and let them shop for the
items they will need! We will definitely be trying this in our household.
If your goal is to raise Godly Children with
Servant hearts, this book is for you. I think this is a must read for any
parent in today's society. I loved this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Waterbrookmultnomah in
exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review and all
opinions are my own.
